Senna Agius backed up his formidable form in America with another well-fought FIM Moto2™ World Championship victory at the Circuito de Jerez today, beating teammate Manuel Gonzalez and pole-sitter Collin Veijer in a thrilling three-way battle at round four of the 2026 season.

After a weekend of cloudy weather and rain conditions, the Spanish sun was beating down on the 4.42km venue with a scorching 21 laps ahead of the Moto2™ riders.

From his first-ever pole position in the Triumph-powered class, Veijer made a strong start but was beaten into turn one by Gonzalez. Quick to fight back, the Dutchman reclaimed his place at the head of the field and looked to control the pace early on ahead of Gonzalez and Agius.

Meanwhile, as the leading three broke free from the chasing pack, a fiery battle for fourth was breaking out. After Barry Baltus and Alonso Lopez both crashed out, Alex Escrig, who started the Grand Prix from the middle of the front row, held fourth before being shuffled back a place by a hard charging Celestino Vietti, who had climbed up the order from his 13th place grid spot.

Back at the front, it was time to attack for Agius, with the Australian pouncing on his teammate and then an attempt moments later on race leader Veijer. Eventually taking the lead on Lap 14 at turn eight, the pole-sitter was then vulnerable for an attack from Gonzalez, with the Spaniard sweeping through to make it an Intact GP 1-2.

With a clear track ahead, Agius tried to break away, but Gonzalez kept the pressure on his teammate. Aware of his presence, the race leader pushed on and left a comfortable gap between himself and Gonzalez, crossing the line 0.885s ahead, with Veijer rounding out the podium.

David Alonso put in a gutsy ride to fourth. The Colombian battled hard throughout the race, bridging what was a two second gap to just 0.9s at the checkered flag, missing out on a visit to the Jerez podium.

Celestino Vietti rounded out the top five to cap an impressive recovery for the Triumph 765-powered Speed Up RS machine, with Daniel Muñoz finishing sixth ahead of Izan Guevara, Tony Arbolino, Alex Escrig and Ivan Ortola rounding out the top ten.

Agius’ victory means the Australian moves to 9.5 points behind teammate Gonzalez with Guevara holding on to third in the overall standings.

The Moto2™ World Championship returns to action in Le Mans for the fifth round of the championship on 8-10 May.
